Mobile Banking App Concept

Introducing concept for homepage/dashboard of a mobile banking app, catered to early to mid career office workers in Thailand.

Key Responsibilities:

UX/UI, User Research
Concept Design

Timeline

~2 days

The task was to create a dashboard of a mobile banking app for working adults in their early to mid career.

As there was no application to base on, the first thing I did before diving in was defining the scope, this includes identifying business goals, defining users and their pain points and listing out basic product needs.

Background

Features
Overview

Thailand ranks 7th globally in terms of household debt, which accounts for 90% of the country's GDP— a 16% increase over the past five years.

Financial advice communities, podcasts, and YouTube such as TheMoneyCoachTH (600k sub) TheStandardWealth (500k sub) have been growing in popularity, highlighting the younger generation's increasing concerns about managing their finances. These not only highlight a growing debt crisis, but also the younger generation’s fear of getting into more debt. Therefore, it’s essential for a new generation of mobile banking app dashboard to focus on educating young users about financial management.

Insights and Opportunities

Finance can be complex, but data visualization helps simplify it. Above shows initial designs of the UI based on consideration below:

  • Clarity through color coding
There’s a saying that Thais read less than 7 lines a day. Colors can instantly convey the “health level” of a user’s wallet, evoking emotions and setting the tone at a glance.

  • Evoke emotions with… Emotions
Expressive Coins character let users know the stage of their financial situation, whether they should be happy or concerned.

  • Keep it real with copywriting
To make finance feel approachable, Expressive coins will sometimes send users messages, mimicking a way a reliable big sister will speak through using casual language and relatable slang.

Visualization Considerations

Upon landing on the app, user will find 2 main menus. Life and Balance. Life serves as a customizable dashboard with all essential features, while Balance focuses on managing users’ bank accounts. The dashboard introduces three key features.

Expressive Coins
Keep track of your spending every step of the way. Accumulated amount of wallet is shown at the top along with Expressive Coin, which comes in 4 unique expressions each with assigned colors, showcasing the different states of your financial health

Features

Expressive Coins - Views

Upon clicking on the expressive Coin section, user can view a more detailed information of their. Offer users the flexibility to switch for a clear overview of spending in Calendar or in-depth spending details in List view which shows all transaction happening.

Setup wallets and goals

Accumulated wallet and expressive coin is a result of how user wallet is set up.

The app allows users to keep spending in check with separate wallets for different purposes. Categorize them as either spending or saving. Based on the category, users can either set goals or limit.

Personalized your feed with Financial Health

Financial health is a customizable module that allow user to visualize financial information that are important to them. At default, they’ll be able to see:

  • Average spending

  • Weekly and monthly spending trends

  • Spending compared to others in the with the same income

  • On-time payment percentage for credit card payment (in case user has credit card witht he bank)
